Why get involved?

The University of the West Indies is your place to shine; both in and outside the classroom. UWI Mona campus provides a myriad of different avenues through which students can get involved in extra-curricular activities; be it through volunteering with the University administration, joining a service club or society, or by joining a committee.

Through these various media, you may unearth a plethora of talents and interests whilst honing the talents you already possess. There is also the added opportunity of starting and registering your own club or society at the Mona campus.

Being an active individual allows you to become more rounded, it allows you to channel positive energies and show your creativity. It also teaches teamwork and time management skills and builds leadership capacities. Through getting involved, you will find that there is interaction between individuals who are like-minded; you will learn from each other and make life-long friends. It hones skills and work ethics and adds that touch of completeness to your resume when you are ready to apply for a job or scholarship.

Studies have also shown that students who are actively involved in co-curricular activities are more likely to excel in academics; while bearing this in mind it also key to note that you should not allow such involvements to overwhelm your academic work, in all you do, try to strike a positive balance.

Let not the academics be your only portals of radiance, whilst there is a vast amount of resources at hand ready for your positive manipulation.

Talk to your student leaders at the hall, faculty or campus level if there is any uncertainty about how to join a particular service group. Or click on the Join a committee page to see which Guild committee is for you.

GET UP! GET INVOLVED this is the University of the West Indies- YOUR PLACE TO SHINE.
