The Faculty of Social Sciences is the largest faculty on the University of West Indies Mona campus, offering a diverse variety of degree programmes for undergraduate and graduate students. When one combines the academic departments, institutes and business school, the Faculty of Social Sciences houses over 6000 undergraduate and graduate programmes. With a total of approximately over 5,000 undergraduate and 1,000 graduate students enrolled in a wide range of programmes each year. The faculty has been known to produce some of the Caribbean’s renowned scholars and intellectuals.
The faculty of Social Sciences houses some of the brightest, most ambitious, most intelligent, the best critical thinkers and the most self-motivated students on campus. The aim of this prestigious faculty is to provide students with the necessarily resources and skill sets that will allow them to reach their true potential achieve their dreams and ultimately becoming model professionals and world class citizens.
As the Social Sciences Representative for the academic year 2011-2012, it is my desire to add to, maintain and elevate such standards of the faculty. In such a diverse environment in areas of studies and cultures, it is the intent of the Social Sciences Representative Committee to create a more holistic atmosphere among such divides. We aim to build on integration, with the faculty being the primary factor among all students and bring a sense of faculty pride and patriotism among its members. Also, together, we will host a number of events and activities geared towards student development and community service.
The great John Lenon once said,
“A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.”
So let us dream together and create a better faculty, a better university and a better Caribbean.
Social Sciences – Together we shine.
