The MAPS / Postgraduate team 2011 is here to inform, support and assist all Mona’s postgraduate student during our year of service 2011/2012. As such we will be focusing on three (3) main areas that we think are important to postgraduate studies to accomplish this. These areas include:

  1. Making Postgraduate Studies More Visible and Cohesive
  2. Assisting Graduate Students To Complete Their Programmes
  3. Effective Supervision

We are hoping that this will result in a visible, viable, likeable postgraduate experience that will increase and influence a higher student intake in graduate studies.
While trying to foster a relevant and enjoyable graduate experience at the UWI Mona, we realize that among the main experience that most graduate student’s desire are:

  1. To successfully complete their programmes
  2. To have the relevant information to complete studies
  3. To have adequate supervision to guide their studies and,
  4. To have the finances to compensate their studies

Below are some links that provide information that is relevant to developing the community of postgraduate students:

  1. The UWI GRIPS Page
    http://www.uwi.edu/grip/default.aspx
This site is provides accessand information to all four (4) Campuses (namely Cave Hill, Mona, St. Augustine and Open Campuses) from their websites allowing easy access to more information. It also allows students to access information from the Graduate Studies and Research in a more user friendly manner as most of the information is labelled.
  2. The Graduate Blog
    http://www.uwi.edu/gradstudiesblog/
The aim of this blog is to foster communication and discussion among postgraduate students. It is very important for graduate to signal their presence on the Mona Campus if we are going to effective in affecting any change relevant to us. Via this blog, we should make our voice, ideas and opinions be known, as well as share our research achievements, awards and advice.
  3. Thirdly is the Thesis Coach
    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=111732152214387
The Thesis coach is a research support webpage via Facebook that is offered by Dr. Karen Carpenter, Psychologist and Clinical Sexologist who is actively involved in Research and Graduate Coaching. Additionally she will be offering workshops and seminars on behalf the MAPS/Postgraduate team 2011/2012.
