Pelican Pride…our enduring guide!
The Commuting Students Office was established in 2007 to streamline all activities and facilitate the day-to-day affairs of commuting students at Mona. Together with the Commuting Students’ Advisors, the Commuting Students Office tried it best to serve the needs of commuting student and advance their interest.
COMMUTING STUDENTS’ ADVISORS
The commuting students’ body has had the benefit of having Resident Advisors appointed to them since 1998. The Commuting Student Advisors (CSAs) are in charge of various portfolios of student activities including community outreach, sports, leadership and mentorship, communication and lounge management. Acquaint yourselves with them and feel free to ask them for assistance if needed. Remember, they are here to serve you and make your experience at The UWI most meaningful.
COMMUTING STUDENTS’ LOUNGE
The Commuting Students’ Lounge is our general campus comfort zone. It was established in 1993 to help students cope with the challenges of juggling co-curricular activities, classes and the daily commute. The lounge is located adjacent to the Faculty of Humanities and Education and opposite to Mary Seacole Hall. The lounge facilitates rest and relaxation, dining and overall socializing of the students. From 7a.m to 9p.m, commuting students have access to a kitchenette equipped with a microwave, percolator and refrigerator; a chill room furnished with lounge chairs, television and DVD player; locker storage facility, a computer laboratory and a dining patio. The lounge also provides opportunities for employment as lab technicians; lounge monitors and supervisors.
By virtue of our affiliation with the respective Halls of Residence, commuting students are a legitimate extension of each. As such, they invited you to come in and share in all the aspects of Hall life. Each Hall of Residence have established ‘comfort zones’ where commuting students may sit, relax and vibe together with their colleagues in Hall; these zones serve as complements to our Commuting Students’ Lounge. Your contribution to your respective Hall also permits utility of facilities such as computer laboratories, gyms, cafeterias and laundry facilities. Please make every effort to make your affiliation most purposeful by maintaining a strong presence and active involvement.
So for the affiliated Irvinites; come to “Know Thyself” where the vine and vibes are synonymous!
For the Taylorites; bask in the glory of being a part of the “Hall of Halls”.
For the Chancellorites; add you voice to the lions’ roars, “Long live the lions”
For the Seacolites; continue to emphasize that it is “So hard to be a Seacolite, but so good.”
For the Prestonites; join the mighty sharks in the “Relentless pursuit of excellence.”
